This quote means that you will only get independence and freedom if you prove and show that you can and will always choose the right. An example would be your parents. If you prove to your parents that you know how to respect and well behave I guarantee they will give you all of the independence and freedom you want. They will let you go any where you want as long as you always choose the right.
